About New Global Economy
News, Data, Intelligence, for a rapidly changing world.
Our mission
The global economy is changing quickly, and the part changing fastest — emerging and frontier markets — is the part the world's business press covers least. These markets are where much of the coming decade of growth, trade, energy and capital flows will be decided, yet coverage tends to arrive during a crisis and thin out afterwards.
New Global Economy exists to close that gap. We publish fast, reliable information on the countries and companies shaping this shift, and we treat them as the main story rather than a footnote to the West.
What you get
The news feed is the starting point: daily stories drawn from reporting by established news organisations and public data, checked against a fixed set of editorial rules and linked back to their sources.
Beyond the feed, the site is built so you can go further without leaving it:
- Countries — macro and market data on emerging, frontier and G7/G20 economies: growth, inflation, debt, currency, trade and sovereign ratings.
- Companies — listed businesses across those markets, with the data and context needed to place them.
- Market Map — the world organised by market pressure, so you can see where risk and opportunity are concentrating.
- AI Assistant (⌘K) — search the archive or ask a question and get a sourced answer.
The point is simple: keep up with what matters today, and build a better read on where the New Global Economy is heading.
What we cover
MSCI Emerging and Frontier Markets alongside the G7 and G20 — the economies that account for most of the world's population and a rising share of its output.
We cover these markets on their own terms, not only as they relate to the West.
Who is behind it
New Global Economy is founded and run by Lanre Akinola, former editor of This Is Africa (Financial Times) and African Business, and co-host of CNBC Africa's Africa Face to Face.
How we work
New Global Economy is an AI-native service, built that way on purpose: covering a very large number of markets, every day, at a speed a traditional newsroom cannot match.
Every piece runs through fixed internal rules before it appears — grounded in dated, named sources; figures that carry a specific time reference; neutral attribution and AP style; automated quality and sourcing checks that hold back anything that fails. Where a story rests on a source, it links to it.
We are equally plain about the rest. New Global Economy does not do original reporting, interviews or on-the-ground verification, and it is not presented as a newsroom of journalists. It is a fast, dependable layer over information that already exists in public — built so you can keep up, then go to the primary source for anything that matters.
